Ti-Arne Jai Hickey

Nickname: Ramel (family), Chicken Wing or Chicken giblet (umpiring)

Occupation/Education: Student

Family: One of 8 kids. My dad Brett is also an umpire. No family of my own yet haha

Umpiring Discipline: Boundary

Years Umpiring and how old were you when you started: 2014 will be my fourth year. I was 13 when I started

Reason for umpiring: Originally started just because dad umpired however my first training session my dad couldn’t make it, and I went by myself. Being introduced to the group as Chickenman’s daughter and the responses of jokes from the group, I knew then i’d continue to come due to the comfortableness and entertaining welcome. Once I met the people and had a run around I knew I would stick around. Didn’t mind the idea of making money as well haha

Highlight of umpiring career to date: 2013 female umpire of the year and umpiring the 2012 and 2013 under 18 grand finals. Also umpiring senior football

Umpiring goal for next season: Continue umpiring seniors and hopefully umpire a reserves grand final

Who had the most influence on your umpiring career and why: My dad introduced me however the most influential person in my umpiring career would have to be Britt Giles, another female umpire, she was my first friend at umpiring and throughout my years she has been someone to motivate me. She really influenced me to continue coming back

Most embarrassing moment on a footy field: I slipped over and fell in the mud right in front of a coaches box. Wasn’t one of my classiest moments hahaha

Which training drill do you dread the most: Long distance sprints. Not a fan ha

What is your prematch routine: I haven’t got a routine as such, I just make sure I eat breakfast at least two hours before my game

What is your favourite RDFL ground: Lancefield

Which umpire is:

Smartest: Billy Mitchell

Most Annoying: Corey (Bread man)

Funniest: Icely and Rath

Most Talented: Kyle Fisher

Coaches Pet: Joel Wood hahaha

If umpire training was the TV show survivor, who would be voted off first and who would win: Joel Wood haha and Jason Mousley would win

Hobbies aside from umpiring: Gym, netball and shopping

AFL team: Collingwood

If you could invite any 5 people around for dinner, who would it be: Ryan Gosling, Rebel Wilson, Beau Ryan, Morgan Freeman and Katy Perry

Which Hollywood actor would play you if they made a movie about you: I’d like to Jessica Alba but most likely Rebel Wilson haha

I enjoy being a part of the Riddell umpires because: The people are genuinely great. Its like a family or a unconventional football team haha. A mixture of entertainers, Authority, old and young, big and small, females, talented, comedians, all with a common interest in football. Your’re bound to laugh when around them, they make umpiring just that much more worth it.
