Life Membership
 
Life Membership to the Riddell Umpires is awarded to acknowledge outstanding contributions made to the association. It is not games, grand finals or years of service based. The following individuals have helped make the Riddell Umpires what it is to today.
 
Ian Grieve
 
Ian Grieve was a member of the Riddell Umpires from 1983 to 2007, umpiring 7 games. Ian was a key contributor in the formation of the RDFLUA. He was the inaugural President of the Riddell Umpires serving from 1983 to 1989. He was the joint Boundary and Goal umpire advisor from 1983 through to 1990. From 1991 to 1994, Ian continued as the Boundary Advisor.  Ian also had a stint as treasurer in 2003. 
 
Keith Cummings
 
Keith Cummings was a member of the Riddell umpires from 1983 to 2007, umpiring a total of 180 games (125 senior). Keith was the Junior Advisor from 1986 through to 1994. He served as the secretary in 1984 and 1985. Keith took over the role of senior advisor in 2002 serving in the position for 2 years.
 
Glen Shilling
 
Glen joined the Riddell Umpires in 1988 and his given 26 years of continuous service which has seen him umpire 719 games (238 senior). Glen’s contribution to the Riddell Umpires and the RDFL has also led to him being awarded Life Membership to the RDFL. Glen served as the Secretary from 1989 to 2003 and General Manager from 2004 to present. Glen was also the Junior Advisor from 1999 through to 2012. Glen has been awarded the Bob Croxford – Best Club Person award on two occasions, 1991 and 1997. Glen umpired three Division 2 Senior Grand Finals in the field in 1994, 1995 and 1996.
 
Bruce Pizaro
 
Bruce Pizaro is one of the Riddell Umpires longest serving members giving 31 years of continuous service since 1983. Bruce has umpired a total of 893 games (463 senior). Bruce served as the Goal Umpires Advisor from 1995 to 1999. He has also spent numerous years as an assistant in this position, including 2013. Bruce umpired a Division 1 Senior Grand Final in the Goals in 1992 as well as three Division 2 Senior Grand Finals in 1987, 1988 and 1991.
 
Bob Manton
 
Bob Manton umpired 219 games (149 senior) at the Riddell Umpires between 1983 and 2007. He umpired the 1983 Senior Grand Final in the field. Bob served as Vice President of the Riddell Umpires in 1988 and 1989 before becoming the President and serving from 1990-1994. 1997 was the 125th anniversary of the RDFL. Bob was named as the field umpire in the team that was named to commemorate this occasion. 
 
David Wilson
 
David Wilson was a boundary and goal umpire who umpired in the RDFL before the creation of the RDFLUA. During his time at the Riddell Umpires between 1983 and 1992, David umpired 222 games (62 senior). He served as Treasurer from 1983 to 1990. David was responsible for the first use of computers at the RDFLUA to keep records and to help run the association.
 
Ken Hosking
 
Ken Hosking was a member of the Riddell Umpires between 1989 and 1999, umpiring 307 games (82 senior). He umpired the 1991 Division 1 Senior Grand Final in the Goals and two Division 2 Grand Finals in 1989 and 1990. Ken was awarded the Bob Croxford – Best Club Person award in 1990. Ken served as the Vice President between 1990 and 1993 and President between 1995 and 1997.
 
Alan “Ollie” Matthews
 
Ollie joined the Riddell Umpires in 1986 and has been there ever since. He is the association’s record games holder with 1224 (498 Senior).  Ollie has had a very successful career as a Goal Umpire umpiring Division 1 Senior Grand Finals in 1992, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2001 and 2003 as well Division  2 Senior Grand Finals in 1993 and 1995. Ollie served as the Vice President from 1995 to 1997 before taking over as President in 1998 and serving until 2002. Ollie was also the Goal Umpires Advisor from 2004 to 2009. Ollie has served as President of the RDFL and is also a Life Member of the RDFL.
 
Rod Baguley
 
Rod was a foundation member of the Riddell Umpires who umpired between 1983 and 1990 umpiring 57 games. He served as the Vice President from 1983 to 1987. Rod also served as the fitness coach from 1983 to 1990. He has been described as the “toughest and hardest” fitness coach that the Riddell Umpires has ever seen.
 
Eric Garwood
 
Eric Garwood is one of three umpires that joined the Riddell Umpires at its inception in 1983 that is still umpiring today. He has umpired 828 games (620 senior). Eric has had a very successful career on the boundary, umpiring Division 1 Senior Grand Finals in 1989, 1997, 2000, 2001 and 2002 and Division 2 Senior Grand Finals in 1987, 1994 and 1996. Eric has served as a long term assistant coach to the boundary umpires. Eric has received the Bob Croxford – Best Club Person award a record 3 times in 1989, 1994 and 2011. Eric was also named as the Boundary Umpire in the team that was named to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the RDFL.
 
Box Croxford
 
Bob Croxford was a member of the Riddell Umpires from 1983 to 2007 umpiring a total of 550 games (281 senior). Bob had a successful career on the boundary umpiring the Division 1 Senior Grand Finals in 1986, 1987, 1989 and 1991 and the Division 2 Senior Grand Final in 1992. After a successful career on the boundary, Bob moved over to the goals umpiring the 1999 Senior Grand Final. Bob was the Boundary Advisor from 1995 to 1997 and the Goal Umpires Advisor from 2001 to 2003. He also served as the Vice President in 2003. The Riddell Umpires named their Best Club Person award after Bob following his passing in 2011.
 
Steven Giles
 
Steven Giles has had several stints at the Riddell umpires, 1990-1995, 2000-2001 and 2004 to 2013 umpiring a total of 174 games (136 Senior). Steven started on the boundary, umpiring the 1990 and 1991 Division 1 Senior Grand Finals. Steven then moved to the field where he umpired the Senior Grand Final in 2000. He was the Fitness Coach in 2001 and the Senior Coach from 2004 to 2008. He was also the President of the Association from 2010 to 2012. Steven was awarded the Bob Croxford – Best Club Person award in 2005. Steven returned to the Riddell Umpires in 2016 to serve as the current General Manager. 
 
Dennis McIntosh
 
Dennis McIntosh was a foundation member of the Riddell Umpires who umpired from 1983 to 1992 umpiring a total of 477 games (225 senior). Dennis had a successful career as both a Boundary and Goal Umpire. He umpired the 1983 and 1984 Senior Grand Finals on the boundary and the Senior Division 1 Grand Finals in 1987 and 1989 and Division2 in 1988 and 1990. Dennis served on the committee for several years and is best remembered as our long serving property steward.
 
Ken Freeman
 
Ken joined the Riddell Umpires in 1986 and has been with us ever since umpiring a total of 538 games (342 senior). Ken started as Boundary Umpire, before moving to the field and more recently the goals. Ken umpired the 1997 Senior Grand Final on the Boundary as well as the Division 2 Senior Grand Final in 1995. Ken has been the Social Secretary since 1986 and served as the Boundary Advisor from 1998 to 2005. Ken has been awarded the Bob Croxford – Best Club Person on two occasions, 1986 and 2011. Ken remains involved in the Riddell Umpores today as the current fitness advisor and senior field advisor ensuring the association puts the best umpires on the fieldf each week. 
 
Stan Pettett
 
Stan Pettett was a member of the Riddell Umpires from 1987 to 2000, umpiring a total of 415 games (161 Senior). Stan was the Treasurer from 1992 to 2000. Stan umpired numerous Grand Finals in the field including the 1990, 1994, 1995 and 1996 Division 2 Grand Finals. He also umpired the 1997 reserves and 1998 BFL reserves Grand Finals.
 
Bill Connell
 
Bill joined the Riddell Umpires in 1994 and has been around ever since. Bill has had a successful career as a Goal Umpire umpiring Senior Grand Finals in 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2013. Bill has been the Riddell Umpires Trainer since the late 1990's and joined the Committee in 2011. Bill has been awarded the Bob Croxford – Best Club Person award on two occasions, 2003 and 2007. Bill continues to remain involved as the current uniform/property steward and goals observer. 
 
Alan Elliot
 
Alan was a foundation member of the RDFLUA in 1983 and served until 2000. Alan umpired 522 games (355 senior). He umpired the 1991 and 1992 Division 2 Grand Finals in the Goals. Alan was named as the Goal Umpire in the team that was named to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the RDFL. 
 
David Hilli  
 
David joined the Riddell Umpires in 2002, with a career spanning over 626 games(292 sernior). David has been recognised for his achievements by being appointed to 18 grand finals across his career.including completing 4 RDFL Senior Grand finals (2003,2004,2016,2017).David was awarded life membership in 2017. David served the association as President from 2013-2019.  
 
Lita Cooney 
 
Lita is the most recent, and stands as the only female recieptant of life membership (2019). Lita joined the Riddell Umpires in 1998. The three time Bob Croxford Best club person award winner has officated in over 700 games and becomes the first female umpire to offciate 300 Senior games. Lita remains involved in the association has the foundation of our cooked meals at training every Wednesday.
