Another exciting week at the Riddell umpires with AFL Visitors, Interleague and more new members taking on our great sport.
Last Wednesday we were lucky to have four AFL Umpires visit training. Jacob Mollison (Field), Tim Morrison (Boundary), Matthew Tomkins (Boundary) and Matt Dervin (Goals) all made the trip to Melton to run training and speak to the group about umpiring at the highest level. It is always a special occasion when we have the AFL Umpiring department attend training. For some of our members, these athletes are their role models, just like AFL starts are for local players. The night was a huge success with over 100 umpires on the track.
Interleague is a fantastic weekend for our umpires as we get to umpire at a range of grounds and with umpires from other groups. However the most exiting part is the quality of football. These appointments are only one step below Grand Finals, so its an honour for any umpire to be chosen for the game. Congratulations to Chris Stead, Brayden Howard, Bailey Marshall, Zac Martin, Billy Mitchell and David Hili who all represented our group with pride.
Our numbers are slowly increasing as new members walk through the door. However as always we could do with some more. With the increase in Junior and Womens football, we need more umpires to cover all the games. If you think that umpiring is something for you, visit our website www.riddellumpires.com.au for more information.
