Davin Reid, a previous member of the Riddell Umpires has a list of umpiring creditials longer than most umpires and with his most recent award, that list just got a little bit longer.
Davin's attention to detail on the football field has led to him being awarded the Field Umpire Of The Year at the recent AFL Victoria Country Awards.
Davin's umpiring career has included a stint in the VFL from 1995-2000 where he umpired 48 VFL senior games, 31 AFL Reserves, 28 TAC Cup and 10 VFL Reserves games. Davin umpired the 1996 TAC Cup Grand Final. After leaving the VFL he moved to the Ballarat Football League where he umpired numerous Senior Grand Finals in the early 2000's. The partnership between the Riddell Umpires and the Ballarat Umpires led to him making numerous friends and choosing to join the Riddell Umpires in 2008. His career with the Riddell Umpires was short but very sweet. He umpired 26 games (23 Senior) including the 2008 RDFL Senior Grand Final. Davin has since moved to the Geelong Football League where he has been one of their highest ranking umpires. He has gone on to umpire the 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 GFL Senior Grand Finals.
Along with being selected as Country Field Umpire Of The Year, Davin was selected to umpire the VAFA vs VCFL Premier Division Match in 2013. When asked about Davin, GFUL Director Of Umpiring Scott McLeod said "He's a pro and really works hard at his umpiring and takes it very seriously in the way he upholds the laws and makes sure the game is played according to the laws".
Davin is still a regular at the RDFL Senior Grand Finals and enjoys catching up with old friends. No doubt all these people would love to have him back at the Riddell Umpires.
The Riddell Umpires would like to congratulate Davin on his latest achievement. An award that we know he truly deserved.
