What A Day For O'Dea

When Hayden Kennedy phoned Rose O'Dea, she could barely contain her excitement "I was much more excited than I thought I would ever be. It was a fantastic day and I can't wait to get into next year".

The reason O'Dea can't wait for next year is she will become just the 3rd female Goal Umpire in AFL history following in the footsteps of Katrina Presley and Chelsea Roffey when she joins the 27 strong elite AFL Goal Umpire Panel. What also impressive is she will be one of the youngest ever AFL umpires at the age of 21. O'Dea just needs to pass the time trial to get the official tick of approval but that shouldn't be a problem given her aunty is Olympic Marathon Silver Medalist, Lisa Ondieki.

You may wonder why blowing a whistle on a football field would look good on a resume, but you need to look deeper to understand why. Umpiring provides you with, or helps you to nurture many life skills that prospective employers will look for in their employees.
