Jacob Port Selected as our 2018 Far North Queensland Umpire

Jacob Port was selected from the Riddell Umpires to travel with the Under 17 AFL Goldfields Far North Queensland squad as they prepapred to take on AFL Cairns at Cazaly's Stadium. Port believes this was a 'great opportuntiy' to umpire in carins. Port has been with the Riddell Umpires since 2014 where he began as a boundary umpire. In 2015 he commenced field umpiring and has completed a total of 192 games, 25 of these are senior games. Port has had the pleasure to officate an Under 14C, Under 16B and an Under 18's Grand Final.

                                                                                            Jacob Port

Under different types of conditions Port sais it was 'important to hydrate' before the game as he knew it was going to be a fast game on a hot day. During the game Port prioritised 'working' his 'angles' as this was such an open game. Overall he believes this was a 'good standard of footy' and was delighted to be selected. Congratulations Jacob Port.

Former Riddell Umpire Elise Muller now a VFLW Player

Former Riddell Umpire Elise Muller is now playing VFLW Football with the Western Bulldogs, Muller umpired 10 games with us when she joined in 2016. Muller is now a listed player in the Western Bulldogs VFLW team.

Muller was picked up by the Bulldogs only a few weeks ago and has so far played 2 out of a possible 2 games. Muller said that due to the vast change in the environment she had to ‘adapt to the new level’. Even with a great pre-season with her local club the ‘VU Western Spurs’ she believes she has ‘entered the VFLW with less stamina than the other girls in the competition’ emphasising how important gaining pre-season fitness is. Muller went on to say that ‘running backwards’ was a key skill she learnt with her time at Riddell Umpires, and has incorporated that into her game. Muller joined the Riddell Umpires to gain more knowledge about the ‘rules of the game’,'I feel being an umpire has improved my footy game a lot and I have Riddell [Umpires] to thank for that', Muller said.

We are very proud to have played a part in Muller’s journey to where she is now. The Bulldogs next game occurs on the 16th June against Williamstown, we wish her all the best for the rest of her career.
